UD Trucks has added to its flagship Quon heavy duty truck line-up with a new 8-liter engine model, which went on sale on January 29. The 8-liter engine achieves a 300 kg weight reduction, substantially improving load efficiency. The new model is an answer to the small-engine displacement needs of logistics operators who require load efficiency over short and medium distances.
The expansion of e-commerce is feeding the rapid growth in home deliveries, but at the same time the trucking industry faces a serious shortage of drivers. Logistics companies need to meet the growing demand for short and medium distance journeys such as between depots and local transport, while at the same time improving the working environment for drivers and enhancing operational efficiency. To provide sufficient payload capacity to meet these distribution needs, UD Trucks has now added the 8-liter model to its line-up.
UD Trucks offers a standardized complete model with a high loading specification by working closely with bodybuilders to successfully reduce body weight by 300 kg – achieving a 500 to 700 kg increase in payload capacity. The dump version is mounted with a new high-load specification telescopic dump, capable of lifting over 10 tons. In the mixer version the 4.4 m3 capacity drum is fitted as standard; a 4.5 m3 drum can be selected as an option.
The Volvo Group already has 30,000 8-liter engine trucks on the road, and they have chalked up considerable achievements. All of the models have obtained high customer appraisals. The new Quon 8-liter model features the "ESCOT-VI" automated manual transmission, which makes driving the truck feel very much like driving a passenger car. It offers best-in-class fuel efficiency and environmental performance. Beyond protecting passengers and cargo, advanced all-round safety features provide reassurance to less experienced drivers.
Commenting on the launch of the 8-liter engine model, Kouji Maruyama, Senior Vice President of Japan Sales, said that “There is a great need among customers operating over short and medium distances for small displacement engines. With the high loading 8-liter engine models, Quon’s high performance can make a real contribution to efficient logistics.”
Since its launch fifteen years ago, the flagship heavy duty Quon has been constantly ahead of its time. People have been at the core of this development. UD Trucks continues to put the driver at the heart of its thinking. By staying one step ahead, UD Trucks contributes to efficient logistics by providing its customers with the products and services they need.
