The 2022 annual dealer conference kicked off with a business session during the day. Filip Van den Heede, MD UD Trucks Southern Africa, shared the solid 2021 results of the South African hub which included an improvement in vehicle sales and market share, parts sales, telematics growth, and a focus on service agreements.

This was a significant achievement considering it was accomplished during the most trying times of the pandemic. Van den Heede said that, apart from doing well when it came to sales, our customers also reported positive feedback when it came to our products and services, as reflected by our brand and customer satisfaction survey, which showed lots of improvement across various measured business areas.

Recognizing top performance
The second part of the two-part series conference was dedicated to acknowledging those who have consistently gone the extra mile to grow the UD brand across all areas. For the Emerging Markets Duly Trucks, Zimbabwe was named the Dealer of the Year and the Dealer of the Year, Medium Dealer, went to MoTruck, Eswatini.

For South Africa, BB Truck Middelburg won the Dealer of the Year, Medium Dealer, and the top honor went to BB Truck & Tractor from Limpopo with the Dealer of the Year award.

Over 24 categories, including administration, aftermarket, and sales, were featured, with finalist and winners announced in each category. Throughout the years, Dealer of the Year has remained the most coveted award.

In an increasingly competitive market and under less forgiving market conditions, it is commendable that our network partners continue to succeed and elevate the UD brand, said Filip Van den Heede. As a strategic pillar of our better life purpose, we strive to be one of the most coveted employers in the market with strong performance and sustainable growth.

The dealer network is UD Trucks' strongest strategic enabler without which reaching such great results would be nearly impossible. As our clients' profiles shift, so does our understanding of how we create awareness, service, and ultimately build lifetime value with them as we build loyalty. This insight was shared by Filip Van den Heede to the audience while promoting agility, flexibility, and an intimate understanding of customer needs to stay competitive.

Commemorating 60 years of Japanese innovation in South Africa

The awards coincided with UD Trucks' 60th anniversary of operations in Southern Africa. UD Trucks started its sixty-year journey in 1962 with Stanley Motors in Johannesburg: the beginning of a sixtyyear journey selling and supporting trucks in southern Africa. It has been a story of many changes, of many model lines and variants that led to the present day.

Through the years, UD Trucks SA has been contributing to poverty alleviation within communities it operates in as well as achieving other successes. Keno Adachi, our founder, leaves a legacy that runs deep in our culture, and the path he paved for our parent company in Japan to be able to support us and provide the solutions that were needed not only then, but are still relevant today.
