UD Trucks Develops New Medium-Duty Engine

UD Trucks Corporation (formerly Nissan Diesel Motor Co., Ltd; President: Satoru Takeuchi) has developed its own engine, dubbed the GH7, for use in medium-duty trucks. The new engine is compliant with Japan’s “Post New Long-term” emissions regulations, which came into effect in 2009.
A medium-duty engine platform was developed for common use among Volvo Group companies — a key area for harnessing synergy between UD Trucks and the Volvo Group. The GH7 utilizes this engine platform and UD Trucks’ technology pool, together with the Volvo Group’s wealth of development resources, to achieve levels of environmental performance and fuel economy that give it the potential to comply with future emissions regulations.
After making its debut in the 8-ton CONDOR to be launched in Japan in mid-2010, the GH7 engine will be progressively installed in medium-duty trucks in the CONDOR series. In overseas markets, it will first appear in trucks to be launched in the U.S. in late 2010.
Both domestic and export versions of the engine will be produced at UD Trucks' Ageo Plant.
