UD Trucks Southern Africa hosted successful ride and drive events for two of its top fleet customers on the 19thof August.  Driver trainers, transport managers and executives from Vital Logistics and Unitrans joined UD Trucks at the Gerotek vehicle testing facility for two separate events.

Aimed at investing more in-depth knowledge and skills into these customers’ fleets, the events focussed on the company’s extra heavy trucks range, the Quon.

UD Trucks’ product planning specialist, Geoff Kruger, provided some expert advice and insights on the more technical aspects of the Quon range.  He also included some valuable tips and procedures on how customers could get the most economical performance from their fleets.

Participants then had the opportunity to take the trucks through their paces on the Gerotek facility’s High Speed Oval, as well as the more challenging Ride and Handling course.  On the latter, participants took to the course with a loaded trailer in tow, overcoming steep inclines, twisting turns and even water hazards along the way.

UD Trucks Southern Africa engineers and instructors from the company’s Competency Development Centre were on hand to impart their knowledge and skills to participants, and to fine tune especially the driver trainers’ techniques.

“The customer ride and drive events forms part of the company’s objective of providing customers with the best possible support, advice and industry knowledge,” said Jacques Carelse, managing director of UD Trucks Southern Africa.  “We are continuously aiming to meet each customer’s unique requirements for their UD Trucks fleet, and these events help us to address these needs in a very practical way.”
