Seven-year PGA tour pro, Jake Roos, won the UD Trucks-sponsored Platinum Classic Golf Tournament in Mooinooi, North West this past weekend.
Roos was taken to a tense sudden death playoff after he lay tied with Chris Swanepoel and Anthony Michael on 14 under par. He clinched the title with a birdie shot on the 16th and earned himself some of the first world ranking points ever allocated to a 54-hole event, as the Sunshine Tour’s ‘winter’ events are recognised by the Official World Golf Rankings body.
This was the second year that UD Trucks sponsored the Platinum Classic, and on the days leading up to the PGA event, customers were also given the rare opportunity to play with professionals in a special Pro-Am tournament.
In 2010, UD Trucks Southern Africa became the official supplier of commercial vehicles to the Sunshine Tour, the men’s professional golf tour based in southern Africa.
“As we are continuing to invest in and expand our representative footprint across southern Africa, we are proud to be associated with a region-wide sporting competition of this calibre,” said Johan Richards, Chief Executive of UD Trucks Southern Africa.
UD Trucks are used to move the Sunshine Tour from one venue to the next, ensuring the smooth transport of all equipment and logistics associated with an event of this magnitude.
