Optimum gear choice

The starting ratio is selected automatically in response to the road gradient and gross vehicle weight. A choice of programs includes the ability to enjoy fully automatic gear changes and manual selection, while a performance mode has a kick down function to use engine capacity to the maximum.

High mileage

All the shafts, bearings and gears are designed for high operational reliability and long service life. The gears are made of special steel casehardened for additional strength. The gears in the base unit are helical, so more teeth are in mesh with each other at any one time, for high reliability and quiet operation.

ESCOT-Ⅴ saves you fuel

First of all, the internal energy losses are low – actually lower than on manual gearboxes. However it’s the electronics that really make the difference. When driving in Economy mode, every gear change is timed precisely, to let the engine work at its most efficient rpm range.

Cruise control
Engaging the Economy ED mode when driving in auto cruise delivers enhanced driver comfort as well as improved fuel-efficiency. Shift timing and acceleration in hill climbing are optimized for economical driving.

Acceleration Limiter
The ESCOT-Ⅴ is designed to combine easy driving with superior fuel economy. The new Acceleration Limiter in Economy ED mode is a perfect example of how that is achieved by automatically softening acceleration to a certain level to improve fuel efficiency.

The ESCOT Roll fuel-saving feature automatically disengages the engine when you drive downhill to coast in auto cruise/Economy ED mode. That makes use of the truck’s momentum instead of burning fuel.

How does it work?

This non-synchromesh manual gearbox has an electronically regulated pneumatic gear changing system and an automatic clutch. The secret of seamless gear changes lies in the intelligent electronic control unit, controlling the pneumatic system that handles the clutch and shifts. By constantly receiving information about speed, acceleration, weight, road grade, torque demand and more, it can carry out every shift with extreme precision. It also communicates closely with the engine to adjust revs and engine brake effect for fast and comfortable gear shifts.
