After years of purchasing US brand trucks one of Adelaide's leading freight operators, Diamond Brothers has taken a new path purchasing a pair of UD GW400 prime movers for operation in and around Adelaide.

The company purchased the new UD Euro 4 models in February this year to service a contract with pallet maker Chep delivering wooden pallets throughout the Adelaide metropolitan area.

According to Con Diamond, managing director of Diamond Brothers the UD GW 400 was ideal for the task and was by far the best priced and specified truck in its class.

"When we picked up this new contract we realised we required two new prime movers that would be fuel-efficient reliable and highly manoeuvrable in city operations," said Con Diamond.

"It didn't require a really high horsepower truck with high weights because loads average around 18 tonnes so the UD GW 400 was certainly the right spec for the job," he said.

"As well as being the right spec the pricing was perfect for us and was very competitive with other trucks around the same horsepower plus UD has always had a good reputation for reliability and durability, which was important.

"We simply could not afford breakdowns and unreliable trucks with a new contact like this and UD has certainly not let us down," he added.

The company's drivers are extremely happy with both the ease of operation and the comfort delivered by the GW400s.

"The drivers love them, they are easy to drive in city traffic, they are extremely comfortable and the cabs are well laid out," said Con.

"The UDs are very manoeuvrable and can turn easily in relatively confined spaces such as factory yards and warehouse forecourts," he said.

"There is a lot of screwing into and out of tight areas and the UDs cope brilliantly," he added.

"They are a good honest truck and I have a lot of confidence in them, " he concluded.
